Corona Vaccine in Dehradun - My Experience

Vaccine Appointment or Flash Mobile Sale

My experience of getting the first dose of Corona vaccine [covishield] in Dehradun was buttery smooth and hassle-free. Therefore, I ought to applaud the commendable service of nurses, staff, and of course our state government. :)

On April 28th, 2021, I came across a notification that read – “Indian government opens covid-19 vaccine registration for above 18 years.” I promptly registered myself on the Aarogya Setu app the very day. The notification further stated that the vaccination drive would start on May 1st, 2021.

The registration process was easy. However, to be honest, booking a slot on Co-WIN is like buying a mobile phone in a flash sale on Flipkart. Every day the sale starts at 4 pm. If you are a few minutes late, you won’t get a slot since a lot of people, just like you, want to be vaccinated. Besides, the low number of vaccines is the root problem.

Don’t use the Aarogya Setu app to book a slot, but instead use the CO-WIN website. Keep yourself logged in at 4 pm. Check all vaccination centers beforehand, and choose a nearby vaccination center. You may add beneficiaries to your account and book a slot for them. Previously, you could book slots for multiple beneficiaries by selecting every beneficiary in a single attempt. However, now, you can book a slot for only one beneficiary at a time, and you have to repeat the process to book a slot for another beneficiary.

You may connect with people on Whatsapp/Telegram/Reddit and share/receive information related to the vaccination drive in a centralised way.

Vaccine Center: Jambo Site 1/Jambo Site 2/Jambo Site 3/Jambo Site 4

On 11th May, my brother successfully booked a slot (9:00 am to 11:00 am) for the next day. Our vaccination center was JAMBO SITE 1. The center is established in an open area.

Address - Brahmanwala Haridwar Bypass Road Dist. Dehradun, Uttarakhand, 248171

If you’re travelling via ISBT, it’s way before Kargi Chowk on the right side of the road. You’ll easily locate the center, because you may see a bunch of policemen, security personnel, and people at the entrance of the vaccination center.

The next day we reached the vaccination center on time. Some security personnel, at the entrance gate, checked messages we’d received regarding vaccination and let us enter. I casually inspected the place that seemed to be a lush green park. It was clean and beautiful. I saw many people there; everyone was following the covid protocols. Some even covered their faces with three masks and shields. The ginormous vaccination center had spacious parking lots for four-wheelers and two-wheelers.

Now, we had to enter a hall. A man at the entrance of the hall checked our messages again. When I entered the hall, I was amazed as it was managed properly. There were five columns and ten rows. Everyone was seated. Another man inside the hall was giving instructions to vaccine-seekers. He gestured to me to sit on a vacant chair in the third column. A counter occupied by three young women was placed in front of the rows and columns.

Soon, the vaccination process began. One by one people waiting for the vaccine verified themselves at the counter. I had to wait for my turn, so to keep myself occupied I plugged in my earphones and listened to some songs. However, now and then I looked around to see what others were doing. Almost everybody was busy with their phone. Occasionally, new faces came and filled the vacated seats. A girl with a boy came and stood by the chair adjacent to me. [I hoped] She was with her brother. After sanitizing chairs for her brother and herself, she sat elegantly.

Aha! My turn came, so I had to verify myself. I went to the counter and told them my aadhar number and year of birth.

Later on, I entered a small corridor and saw some chairs occupied by humans waiting to be jabbed by skilled nurses. It was yet another waiting area managed by an adult woman lounging on a chair; there were a total of eight chairs.

I was excited and wanted to get myself clicked while getting a shot. Sadly, it didn’t happen. when I left the corridor and entered the next hall, I saw two ladies, probably nurses. I smiled at them, but soon I realised that I was donning a mask. One of the ladies asked me to sit on a vacant chair beside her. I exposed my left arm, and she fondly rubbed a piece of cotton somewhat soaked in disinfectant. Looking into my deep, hypnotic eyes, she gently turned my face away as she thought that I might get scared of the vaccine. She poked the needle into a vial and pulled the plunger; the syringe was now filled with her love. Our eyes met again, and she hastily penetrated my skin, injecting the fluid. I felt love filling the voids inside my body.

Voila! That was it. I got vaccinated.

I feel grateful to be a part of the world’s largest vaccination drive. And everyone must get vaccinated as early as possible so that India can get rid of this highly contagious disease, Corona.
